« Impact of bursty star formation on Galaxy Evolution »

Stellar feedback is a critical component that controls the baryon cycle in small and medium-sized galaxies. However, it remains unclear how the self-regulation can be achieved in galaxy simulations without assuming exotic models of stellar feedback. In this talk, I will first discuss where our simulations have failed to produce realistic galaxies and present a new approach to address this by improving star formation models. Then I will discuss how bursty star formation can potentially affect the properties of galaxies, the destruction of star-forming clouds, and ultimately the regulation of the baryon cycle.
