« Recent Progress in Relativistic Hydrodynamics: »

Harald Dimmelmeier

In recent years, new formulations of the Einstein equations as well as novel numerical approaches have paved the way to successfully attack the problem of simulations of rotational stellar core collapse in general relativistic gravity.
We present a variety of these current developments, with particular focus on new promising constrained evolution schemes (which solve the Einstein equations in an exact or approximate way), as well as the mariage des maillages approach, which combines finite difference grid methods and spectral methods.
When applied to the astrophysical scenario of stellar core collapse, such simulations can help to predict the waveforms of gravitational radiation emitted by such systems, which can be used as templates in the search for gravitational waves by the existing inter- ferometric detectors.
