« Self-accelerating universe from brane worlds »

Kazuya Koyama

The discovery of the acceleration of universe has raised significant challenges for cosmology. One successful realization of cosmic acceleration by large scale modifications of gravity is known in the context of the brane-world scenario where the standard model particles are confined to the brane while the gravity can propagate in higher-dimensional spacetime. In this scenario, the 4D Einstein-Hibert term is assumed to be induced on the brane and this realizes the acceleration of universe without cosmological constant. In the first part of the talk, we present a new way to realize this scenario as an asymmetric warped compactification. Then we present a detailed analysis of gravity in the self-accelerating universe and discuss the possibility of the existence of ghost.
