« Black hole physics and astrophysics with LISA »

The space-based gravitational wave detector LISA is currently under development as a joint NASA-ESA mission for launch around 2013. The sensitivity of this antenna is designed to be optimal for waves arising from processes involving black holes with masses of 10^5 - (a few) 10^7 solar masses --- nicely aligned with the low end of the mass function of black holes observed at the cores of most galaxies. In this talk, I will discuss what we can learn about these black holes from LISA observations.
