« François Arago : Shedding Light on Dark Energy »

The physical process leading to the acceleration of the expansion of the universe is unknown. It may involve new high energy physics or extensions to gravitation. I examine the consistencies and relations between these two approaches to dark energy, showing that an effective equation of state function w(z) is broadly useful in describing its properties. A variety of cosmological observations can provide important information on the dark energy dynamics. I discuss the SNAP satellite proposed to combine supernova distance measurements and a weak gravitational lensing survey, and what this can reveal about the nature of dark energy.
