« Oscillons: d-dimensional long-lived scalar field lumps and their applications »

Marcelo Gleiser

Oscillons are extremely long-lived scalar field configurations which have been of interest in many physical contexts, from astrophysics and cosmology to field theory and soft condensed matter. I''ll describe their properties, including recent results in an arbitrary number of dimensions and arbitrary polynomial interactions. Their role in the emergence of spatio-temporal order in nonequilibrium field theories will be described, as well as possible applications in cosmology.
