« Cosmic Censorship Violation in String Theory »

Thomas Hertog

Penrose''s cosmic censorship hypothesis states that under reasonable conditions, smooth initial data do not produce naked singularities. I show that cosmic censorship does not hold in asymptotically anti de Sitter spacetimes, for certain matter theories, including N=8 gauged supergravity in both four and five dimensions. I briefly describe how this result provides a new approach to the study of cosmological singularities, using the dual field description of the nakedly singular solutions.
