« The formalism for neutrino transport and a holographic toy model »

In the first part, I will give a self-contained review of the formalism that describes the out-of-equilibrium transport of quantum fields at finite temperature and density. Starting from the basic definitions in the Schwinger-Keldysh formalism, I will then explain how the Kadanoff-Baym equation is derived, that describes the evolution of two-point functions out of equilibrium.
From there, I will explain what is the regime in which the semi-classical Boltzmann equation is recovered. Finally, I will specify to the case of neutrino scattering in baryonic matter, and relate the neutrino-self energy to the weak charge transport properties of the baryonic matter. The latter are represented by the chiral current two-point function in the strongly-coupled medium.

In the second part, I will present a holographic toy model of quark matter, where the strongly-coupled calculation of the two-point function can be done exactly. I will show what insights these results give on the transport of neutrinos, emphasizing the emergence of a hydrodynamic behavior, and a suppression of opacities compared with perturbative calculations. These are the first results on the topic in holography, and should be corroborated by further analyses in more realistic models of holographic QCD.
