« Cylindrically symmetric new exact interior solutions in general relativity »

exact solutions to the Einstein equations are very valuable in general relativity (GR), both from a mathematical and a physical point of view. However, the number of interior spacetimes sourced by a self-graviting fluid and described analytically is much smaller than vacuum ones. Indeed the equations to be solved are more involved and the physical constraints are stronger. This is the reason why simplifying assumptions are usually adopted. Here, I will consider a cylindrically symmetric stationary fluid, rigidly rotating and exhibiting different kinds of isotropic or anisotropic pressures. New tools, coined for the purpose, will be displayed and their use will be exemplified to build consistent solutions, matched to an exterior vacuum. Their mathematical and physical properties will be analysed and discussed. The spacetimes generated by a perfect fluid will be detailed as being the most interesting solutions for (astro)physical applications.
