« Testing the nature of astrophysical black hole candidates »

Cosimo Bambi
Dept. Physics, Fudan Univ. (Shanghai, Chine)

Astrophysical black hole candidates are stellar-mass compact objects in X-ray binary systems and super-massive dark bodies in galactic nuclei. They are thought to be the Kerr black holes of general relativity, but their actual nature has still to be verified. In this talk, I show how the available X-ray data can probe the spacetime geometry around these objects and constrain possible deviations from the Kerr solution.
