General relativistic magnetohydrodynamics (GRMHD) is formulated in terms of differential forms and exterior calculus, under the hypotheses of perfect conductivity, stationarity and axisymmetry. The standard assumption of orthogonal transitivity is relaxed, allowing for a greater generality than the Kerr-type spacetimes usually considered in GRMHD. Expressing the electromagnetic field tensor solely in terms of three scalar fields related to the spacetime symmetries, previously obtained results are generalized in various directions. In particular, a fully covariant version of the Grad-Shafranov equation is derived for generic stationary and axisymmetric spacetimes.
