| After a brief summary of twenty years of work on transplanckian-energy string collisions I will present a recent S-matrix approach to gravitational collapse which, in spite of its drastic simplifications, appears to capture the essential physics of the problem by its surprisingly good agreement with analytic and numerical results in General Relativity. |
