Understanding the mode(s) of gas accretion from the Intergalactic Medium is
very important to understand the observed galaxies populations (star-forming and quiescent galaxies) and their evolution as a function of time. The gas is difficult to detect directly in large surveys (most of the time photometric surveys), but is expected to follow closely the dark matter Cosmic Web pattern. That's why star formation in galaxies is expected to evolve as a function of the distance along/away from filaments or at the confluence of filaments, depending on the proximity of the gas reservoir. Therefore it is crucial to study the relationship between the galaxies properties and their environment. I will present you the implementation of this study in the 2deg^2 COSMOS field: preparation of the data and computation of the galaxies properties, and adopted approach(es) to connect the galaxies properties to their environment (local and large-scale environment). |
