If an electromagnetic field is present during inflation, it can lead to unique observational signatures within the reach of next generation experiments. However, it often lead to strong backreaction effects, invalidating the standard perturbation theory approach. In this talk, based on arXiv:2204.12874, I will present the first nonlinear lattice simulation of a model of inflation involving an electromagnetic field, called “axion-U(1)” inflation. I will show that simulations of this kind, although mainly used in the past to study the reheating epoch after inflation, can be a crucial tool to understand the inflationary dynamics of models characterized by nonlinearity during inflation. |
