« Spatially Resolving Bulge Growth over Cosmic Time » |
Alexander de la Vega |
The shutdown of star formation in galaxies seems to be linked with the build-up of bulges, which are dominated by old stars and have little to no ongoing star formation.
We are investigating the build-up of bulges using high-resolution optical and near-infrared images from ACS and WFC3 on the Hubble Space Telescope. Galaxies are selected from the CANDELS survey to have photometric redshifts between 0.5 and 2.5 and masses greater than 10^10 solar masses. I will discuss some preliminary results. |
