« Exploring the Role of AGN Feedback in Galaxy Formation » |
Rebekka Bieri |
Feedback from active galactic nuclei (AGN) is routinely included in semi-
analytic and numerical simulations. They have shown that such feedback is able to quench cooling flows and decrease star formation. In cosmological simulations feedback from radiation as well as jet driven feedback is approximated by a few parameters usually tuned to match global observations. In reality, the parameters used to tune the simulations hide complex physics working on galactic scales that may influence the evolution of these galaxies. I will talk about the exploration of a more realistic treatment of both natures of AGN feedback (radiative and mechanical) and its possible impact in high-redshift, gas-rich galaxies. In specific, I will discuss the coupling of the photons to the surrounding gas by means of radiative transfer and hydrodynamical simulations with the RAMSES code and compare it to the sub-grid models of cosmological simulations. I will then talk about our investigation on how jet-driven feedback might be a possible explanation of the accumulation of recent observational data on remarkably high star formation rates in the high-redshift Universe. |
