« Evolution of galaxies and morphological transformation in nearby clusters » |
Hector Bravo-Alfaro |
We present some results of our study on the environment mechanisms driving galaxy evolution during their in-fall into massive clusters. With this goal we first revisited the
dynamical state and the possible presence of sub-structures within the studied clusters. Then we analyzed the HI gas of spirals and measured the asymmetries shown by the old stellar component (LTG and ETG) of galaxies, as traced by the NIR. We explored large volumes of several nearby (z < 0.1) Abell clusters in order to compare a range of different environment conditions. We used NRAO VLA-HI data cubes, and NIR/optical images (3.6m-CFHT and 200" Hale Tel.) Comparing the degree of disruption in HI versus the asymmetries in NIR, going beyond the virial cluster radius, is proving to be a powerful tool finding the zones dominated by pre-processing, by ram pressure stripping and/or by tidal interactions. |
