The Giant Radio Array for Neutrino Detection (GRAND) is a project dedicated to the radio detection of ultra-high energy cosmic rays, gamma rays, and neutrinos. It aims at deploying in total 200 000 antennas in about 20 sub-arrays, located in mountainous regions, with a combined area of 200 000 km2, making it the largest ground detector ever built. The objective is to detect inclined (> 65°) ultra-high-energy particles from the Universe through the cascade of secondary particles (“air-showers”) these induce when interacting with Earth’s atmosphere.
The preparation of such large-scale radio detectors requires to run massive air-shower simulations to evaluate the radio signal at each antenna position. Still, current Monte-Carlo simulations of air-showers are too computationally demanding to construct such library. We present here the Radio-Morphing method, a semi-analytical tool that enables a fast computation of the radio signal emitted by any air-shower at any location, from the simulation data of one single reference shower at given positions. |
