The SkyMapper telescope is part of this new generation of wide-field survey telescopes and is currently under construction by ANU-RSAA, at Mont Stromlo Observatory (Australia). This 1.35m robotic telescope possess a 256 Megapixel focal plane spanning a 5.7 square degree field of view. The Skymapper telescope will be mainly dedicated, during the next five years, to realise the first digital survey of the entire southern sky in six filters (uvgriz) and 6 epochs. The resulted photometric catalog will be between 0.4 and 1 magnitude deeper than SDSS. I will present an update on the construction of the SkyMapper telescope, and an overview of its capabilities. Due to the large sky area observed, we expect to detect about 30 new bright High redshift Quasars (5.8
