« Gamma-ray bursts: from the exploration of high-redshift galaxies to multi-messenger astrophysics. »

Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) are an amazing class of extreme transient phenomena as their study can impact a large number of fundamental topics of astrophysics, from the physics and origin of ultra-relativistic jets to galaxy evolution up to the formation of the very first stars.
In this seminar, I will present the state of the art of GRB science and on the use of GRBs to explore the high-redshift Universe, with a special focus on the Sino-French GRB satellite SVOM and its early discoveries. I will then provide the perspectives of the field, especially on multi-messenger astrophysics linked with GRBs, in the context of future space missions, ground-based telescopes, and gravitational-wave interferometers.
