The ASKAP GASKAP-HI survey is delivering unprecedented 21-cm observations of the Magellanic Clouds, providing a preview of the transformative science enabled by the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). These observations allow us to study how turbulent neutral gas condenses into the cold structures that regulate star formation, at spatial scales of only a few parsecs.
In this talk, I will present recent GASKAP-HI results on the cold neutral medium in the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds, and discuss how future SKA observations will extend this level of detail to tens of nearby galaxies. I will also introduce IViS (Interferometric Visibility-domain Imaging Software), a GPU-accelerated imaging framework designed for scalable and energy-efficient reconstruction of diffuse spectral-line emission. By combining visibility-domain optimisation, NUFFT-based forward modelling, and joint deconvolution of large mosaics, IViS aims to provide a sustainable imaging solution for the SKA era and future SKA Regional Centre infrastructures. |
