« An introduction to cosmic strings, a decade into the gravitational wave era »

Ten years after gravitational waves were first detected, we are now able to strongly constrain the existence of cosmic strings, and even see some of their signatures emerging in our observations.
In this review presentation, I would like to give a pedagogical yet thorough introduction to cosmic strings: how these objects form, how we understand their dynamics and their gravitational wave signatures.
In particular, I would like to focus on the various points of contention within the community and the efforts being made to resolve them.
