« Gamma-Ray Burst Studies with SVOM »

Frédéric Daigne
Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (Paris, France)

SVOM is a French-Chinese space mission dedicated to the multi-wavelength observation of gamma-ray bursts and other high-energy and multi-messenger transients. The satellite was launched on June 22, 2024, and the scientific operational phase will start in April 2025 for 3+2 years. I will introduce SVOM, with four instruments on board the satellite and several follow-up telescopes on the ground. I will explain the strategy for observing gamma-ray bursts, describing in particular the entire observational sequence that follows an alert. I will then present the core program of SVOM, dedicated to the study of gamma-ray bursts, and discuss some preliminary results from the first detections since launch.
