« Gamma ray bursts: so far … so close »

Giancarlo Ghirlanda
Oss. Astron. Brera (Milan, Italie)

Despite that we have detected the tip of the icerberg of the numerous cosmological population of GRBs in the last 50 years, key observations have stimulated the understanding of these sources. Their potential as probes of the high redshift Universe and their role in multi-messenger astrophysics represent two exciting aspects which will be significantly developed in the next decades. At intermediate redshifts the large GRB statistics allows us to discuss, among other aspects, the nature of the radiation process powering their gamma—ray emission. Finally, the possible role of GRBs on exoplanets life resilience will be presented.
