"The DetweilerWhiting Singular Field in SelfForce"

The twobody problem is a longstanding open problem going back to the work of Einstein himself. The growing reality of detecting gravitational waves has given this ageold problem a new lease of life. The selfforce tackles this problem by using a perturbation of the Einstein field equations in the mass ratio making it ideal to model extreme mass ratio inspirals (EMRIs). If we consider an EMRI system, the smaller black hole can be modelled as a point mass in the Kerr space time  at zeroth order, it follows the geodesic of the background space time but at first order it deviates from this geodesic due to interaction with its own field  which is interpreted as a force, the socalled selfforce.
