« Different uses of peculiar velocity data »

Stephen Turnbull
visiteur - Dept of Physics & Astronomy, University of Waterloo (Waterloo, Canada)

In this talk I will attempt to provide an overview of what peculiar velocity studies are, and how they relate to other fields of astrophysics. I will explain what peculiar velocities are a measurement of, how the velocities are measured and what information about the universes can be extracted from these data sets. In so doing I will highlight the various analysis techniques employed as well as their advantages and potential pitfalls.
