« Bayesian inference with peculiar velocities and fast-radio bursts »

Reconstructions of the cosmic dark matter peculiar velocity field have existed for the last 30 years. Generally, the models used accurately capture the large-scale physics of the field, but fail to capture the small-scale physics. Here I present an adaptation of the BORG algorithm that uses galaxy peculiar velocities as constraining data. Our implementation constrains the cosmic dark matter initial conditions using a physical structure formation model, allowing for velocity field reconstructions that capture the small-scale physics better than the current state-of-the-art.
Fast-radio bursts are a novel probe of large-scale structure cosmology. However, studies are limited by a lack of data and modelling challenges. I will discuss inference with these tracers, as well as the challenges that need to be overcome.
