« Density split statistics: a path to analyzing the cosmic density probability distribution function in galaxy data »

Oliver Friedrich

It has been well established (under heavy involvement of IAP researchers) that the 1-point PDF of density fluctuations is a rich cosmological probe which can be understood analytically to a large extend. But how can one analyse the PDF on the basis of photometric galaxy data? In https://arxiv.org/abs/1710.05162 and https://arxiv.org/abs/1710.05045 we have devised a new approach to do so - Density Split Statistics. I will discuss how this method works in practice and give a brief outlook on what kind of physics we can learn from it (based on https://arxiv.org/abs/1912.06621 and https://arxiv.org/abs/1911.11158).
