« Modelling the early growth of dusty galaxies with the Obelisk simulation » |
Maxime Trebitsch |
In the recent years, the combined power of combining ALMA and JWST has opened a new window on the high-redshift Universe, revealing for example the presence of massive, dusty galaxies already early in the timeline of galaxy evolution.
Some cosmological simulations have started to incorporate the detailed ISM models including the dust evolution component, necessary to probe the physics of these galaxies. In this talk, I will present several results obtained with Obelisk, a cosmological radiation-hydrodynamics simulation modelling the evolution of an overdensity at z>3.5 and its large scale environment. I will in particular focus on the gas and dust content of high-z galaxies in the simulation, showing how their physical properties evolve with redshift. I will then discuss how the resulting observable properties of the massive galaxy population in Obelisk is affected by the presence of dust, and how it compares to real-world observations. |
