« Focusing our understanding of galaxy evolution by bulge and disk morphology »

One of the greatest challenges in contemporary astrophysics is to explain why galaxies that form stars actively as spirals, end up with very low or no star formation ("quenched"). Modeling the surface brightness profiles of bulges and disks shows color effects that can be interpreted as likely evidence for driving these significant changes in galaxies.
