« Search and studies of active galaxies at the Byurakan Atrophysical Observatory »

The Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory (BAO, Armenia) is known for its achievements in theoretical astrophysics (Viktor Ambartsumian’s investigations) and a number of astronomical surveys (Markarian Survey or First Byurakan Survey(FBS), etc.). Especially extragalactic surveys resulted in many discoveries: from Markarian galaxies, to Kazarian UVX galaxies, etc. and many other AGNs and QSOs, and Variable radio sources. I will review BAO achievements in extragalactic astronomy and focus on the studies of my team, namely Markarian galaxies, optical identifications of IRAS and ROSAT sources, variable radio sources, Blazars and ultimately Fine classification of active galaxies. We actively collaborate with Prof. Michel Dennefeld on further studies of Markarian galaxies and their variability and observing programs on both OHP 1.93m and BAO 2.6m telescopes are planned.
