SIDES (Simulated Infrared Dusty Extragalactic Sky) is a simulation we developed and use, among others, for forecasts of LIM experiments. It can realistically generate the infrared and millimeter continuum emission as well as the main high-redshift (sub-)millimeter lines of the galaxies using several empirical relations. The starting point is a dark-matter cosmological simulation, the clustering of the galaxies is thus taken into account. We have combined SIDES with a wide lightcone covering 117 deg2 constructed by the Uchuu cosmological simulation and we were able to study and model the field-to-field variance of the power spectra which is the main observable of LIM experiments. We have also investigated the field-to-field variance of galaxy survey observables (e.g., luminosity functions, molecular gas mass density).
Measuring the power spectrum is the first main challenge of the LIM experiments, but the modeling of the power spectrum is the next important step. We need to link the observed power spectrum to all the hidden physical quantities that we eventually aim to obtain. I’m thus going to present how the LIM power spectrum is modeled in the literature and what is our approach in order to make it as simple as possible but also informative at the same time.
