Séminaire Doctoral / Seminar PhD

« Peculiar Velocities: What, Why, How, and Associsated Limitations »

Stephen Turnbull
Dept Physics Astronomy, Univ. Waterloo (Waterloo, Canada)

In this talk I will attempt to provide an overview of what peculiar velocity studies are and what physics we can learn from them. I will explain what peculiar velocities are a measurement of, how the velocities are measured and what information about the universes can be extracted from these data sets. In so doing I will highlight the various analysis techniques employed as well as their advantages and potential pitfalls, as well as my contribution to the field.
