« From science-fiction to reality: minimalism and real-world physics in the realm of massive gravities »

François Larrouturou
Institut d'Astrophysique de Paris (Paris, France)

Nowadays, a lot of energy is put in finding alternative theories for gravity. But the current one, General Relativity (GR), still holds perfectly well, and has excellent experimental confirmations. So why losing time in seeking for alternatives? And why bother going to hear about those useless, science-fictional toy models?
Mostly because there will be sweets, cakes and juices! But also because this playground is extremely rich and can teach us a lot about GR.
After a review of the reasons that push people forward looking for alternatives, we will discuss the possible ways to discriminate between "healthy" and "sick" theories. This presentation will be illustrated with a specific (and interesting!) class of theories, namely the massive gravities.
