« N-Body Simulations for the Effective Field Theory of Dark Energy with PySCo-EFT and ECOSMOG-EFT »

Himanish Ganjoo

Large-scale structure surveys can serve as cosmological laboratories for testing modified gravity theories, which provide viable explanations for the accelerated expansion of the late-time universe. Testing these theories using upcoming survey data requires accurate predictions of structure formation on galaxy scales. We developed two N-body codes, the Python-based PySCo-EFT and the RAMSES-based ECOSMOG-EFT,  for simulating modified gravity theories in the EFT of Dark Energy formalism, which codifies a host of models using a few physically relevant parameters. Our codes incorporate Vainshtein screening to account for the effects of MG theories on intermediate and nonlinear scales. We present validation tests comparing the two codes and a suite of convergence tests for ECOSMOG-EFT. Additionally, we demonstrate the impact of the EFTofDE parameters and the screening on the matter power spectrum with a set of simulations. The results show sub-percent level correspondence between the two codes and are robust to variations in numerical parameters for linear and quasi-linear scales, providing two excellent tools for generating predictions to constrain modified gravity theories using large-scale structure data.
