| WST observations have shown that the Hubble sequence is already in place as early as z ~ 4. To retrace the history of the Hubble sequence, we leverage the COSMOS-Web morphological catalogue to identify and then analyse bulge+disk systems. We perform SED-fitting of the bulge and disk photometry to derive stellar masses, and compute size-mass relations for these components from z = 0 to z = 4. We model the evolution of the mix of morphologies by looking at the frequency of bulge+disk systems, and the variation in the distribution of bulge-to-total ratios B/T by modelling P(B/T | M?, z) with Beta distributions. High-mass galaxies are more bulge-dominated, but there is also a transition from more disk-dominated towards more bulge-dominated galaxies with cosmic time. Finally, we investigate the consequence of morphological transformations onto the star-forming state of galaxies. Using random forest classifiers, we identify bulge mass as the strongest predictor of quenching, therefore relating bulge growth with galaxy quenching. |
